Raksa in Cambodia


Raksa, twelve, has school only half of the day and spends the rest of the day in the Khmer art and culture center learning how to work shadow puppets. Raksa is a budding young artist and is thrilled to be preparing a puppet show. First, he has to learn to make a puppet from top to bottom. With a piece of leather, a special tool and some paint, Raksa creates Hanuman, the white monkey, chief of the monkey army in a few days time. Between making the puppet and practicing the show, Raksa doesn’t have much time. But he does not forget his family and friends. Be it soccer, swimming with his buddies, visiting the temple of Bantea Chmar, he doesn’t plan on missing any adventures! The great day approaches.
